Chronology of Morgan Frances

2007 –

Dreams of archaeology and cardiothoracic surgery and geology and ultimately being an artist.

2012 – 2021

Sprung from the suburbs of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Clear-cut and clean and fresh with much too many ambitions all at once. She doesn’t remember the exact order of all the responses she gave to adults asking what she wanted to be when she was grown, but they changed each time, and were always amongst others. There never has been one singular position that your very own, Morgan Frances has remained static with.

They ebbed between archaeologist, cardiothoracic surgeon, geologist, artist (i.e. author). Morgan has vivid memories of stomping around Drumheller having yet to sprout all of her adult teeth and loosing a beloved excavation of an amethyst geode on an elementary school field trip to the local quarry. She’s always had a propensity to dig and discover, preferably crystalline treasures.

This developed into a curiosity of what lay beneath her very skin. The exact origin of said curiosity being fifth grade biology class and the fact of her Mama and Nana both being nurses. The field trip to the local lab to dissect cow intestines, observe the motionless moving strength of a dead sheep heart, and watch the local research scientist blow into a pair of lungs, blowing them up, and deflating them down like a balloon, sparked a new image of Morgan’s future professional life. Going further than all the bones. Fixing what didn't work as it should.

As she’s grown, this has all reflected in what Frances hopes her art can be. Crystal. Bone. Beating (or not), as nature, and the body does. Now, because of her premature ambitions of science and medicine, this is what she wishes to perform with her words. Science. Medicine. Music. Magic. She wants to dig. Excavate. Discover.

Being an artist.

2021–

About the artist (i.e. author) part. Growing up also an avid reader, painter, drawer, and not so avid writer, Morgan has also, always in some way hoped and wished to be able to be an artist of some kind, in some way.

Frances has always adored reading, other worlds, and getting lost in the ones on paper and not. She tried writing. Briefly, as a child, but it never stuck. She never was able to find her voice. Or any voice for that matter. She always found herself stuck when she attempted to write a story. At a standstill.

She lost art for a while. In middle school, as it often goes. However, she was able to rediscover it in the ripe beginning of high school, specifically, she found poetry. She is still relearning how to get lost.

Although lacking years of potential discipline in the field, by whatever miraculous, invisible force ever since her rediscovery, it has never once left her, no matter how many times she’s tried to leave it.

Frances has learned that there is simply no escaping being a writer, regardless of whether or not one is able to be a Writer or not. She’s come to realize that she is very lucky to be able to do what she loves regardless of anything, for the rest of her life, or until her brain goes. She is so lucky, to be immersed in an earthly passion that is infinite. DRIVEL’s #1 discovery - Art is infinite.

DRIVEL.
